I investigate the movement of water, sediment, and nutrients through landscapes. My approach involves equal amounts of experimental work, fieldwork, and computer modeling. I do research across a wide range of spatial scales, from studying the process of sediment detachment by a single raindrop to examining how monsoon rains trigger landslides in the Himalayas. My general fields of interest include hillslope evolution, the geomorphic controls on chemical weathering, and the coupling of the hillslope and fluvial systems. My experience in developing process-specific hillslope sediment transport equations at the hillslope scale has given me the opportunity to collaborate with ecologists and biologists to uncover linkages between the biota and geological processes. Ultimately, I am most interested in the part of the landscape where geological, hydrological, and biological processes all intersect.
